Pahalgam is situated at the confluence of the streams flowing from the Lidder river and Sheshnag lake. Pahalgam was once a humble shepherd's village with breathtaking views. Now, Pahalgam is the famous hill resort in Kashmir valley and cool even during the summer when the maximum temperature does not exceed 25°C. This hill resort is set between fairly steep hills. Pahalgam Its natural splendor is described by snow-clad mountain peaks on all sides, a white water river that traverses the narrow valley, and wonderful weather. While Gulmarg was the favorite summer resort of the British during the Raj, rich Indians patronized Pahalgam. Climatic conditions favor tent life, and visitors prefer to spend their holidays under the rivers. The flora and fauna are good, and the scenery is also captivating. Pahalgam is also the base point for undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra. Adventure Activities in Pahalgam
Trekking, golf, fishing, angling, and horse riding are activities available in Pahalgam. The Pahalgam Golf Club has a nine-hole golf course at 2400 meters above sea level, a large plain area in a relatively narrow valley. The golf course can be used by tourists, and golf sets can be hired from the Tourist Office. The locals sometimes refer to this golf course as the "plateau." There is also a golf club on one side of the plateau. Amarnath Cave The tourists can also enjoy fishing in the Lidder River, which has excellent fishing beats for brown trout. The fishing season stretches from April to September. Permits are issued for a maximum of three days at a time, on a first-come, first-served basis, and are charged per rod per day. Fishing equipment can be hired in Srinagar. The best time for trekking in Pahalgam is from April to June, and one of the best-known trekking routes is from Pahalgam to Amarnath, covering Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni.

Tourist Attractions in Pahalgam

Sheshnag
From Chandanwari, the next stop is Sheshnag, a mountain lake situated about 11 km from Chandanwari. Its waters remain covered in ice until June.

Chandanwari
Chandanwari, located 16 km from Pahalgam, is famous for its snow bridge and is the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra.

Panchtarni
Panchtarni, the last stop of the Amarnath Yatra, is located 13 km from Sheshnag and is the confluence of five streams.

Amarnath Cave
The Amarnath Cave is situated 44.8 km from Pahalgam and is considered the abode of Lord Shiva. Pilgrims undertake the tour to have a glimpse of the Shivling formed from iced snow.

Mamal
Mamal is a small village with an ancient Shiva temple dating back to the 5th century.

Aru
Aru is a charming meadow reached by walking along a mountain path, where the Lidder river disappears and reappears after 27 meters.

Baisaran
Baisaran, located 5 km from Pahalgam, is an undulating meadow surrounded by forests of pine, offering picturesque views of snow-clad mountains.

Hajan
Hajan, on the way to Chandanwari, is an idyllic picnic spot and has been the setting for several movies.
