Day 02 In Leh:
Morning excursion to Khardung-la (18,380 ft.), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Khardung-la is gateway to Nubra Valley, enroute have a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains which includes Parcha Khangri, Stok Khangri etc. One can also enjoy playing on snow. Afternoon visit Shanti Stupa built by Japanese, Shankar Gompa is associated with Spituk Gompa and serves as the residence of the Head Lama. The monastery has Dukar Lakhang with a Dukar figure, a most impressive representative of Avalokiteshvara complete with 1000 armes (All holding weapons), and 1000 heads. The painting of the walls is worth seeing Leh Palace is to be visited by foot as it is situated on a hillock. It was built by Sengge Namgyal it is a 9-storey Palace, A building in the grand tradition of Tibetan architecture, said to have inspired the famous Potala in Lahsa. Dinner overnight in hotel at Leh.
Day 03 In Leh:
Full day excursion to Shey, Thiksey and Hemis Gompas. Shey Gompa lies on the way to Hemis. It is situated on the top of a hill and houses the largest victory stupa with a golden top. The statues made of copper and glided with gold are worth seeing. Thiksey Gompa lies on the left side of this road to Hemis. One can have a beautiful view of Indus Valley from the Gompa. Wall paintings of this Gompa are very interesting. From here drive to Hemis which is the oldest, wealthiest and largest Gompa in Leh with beautiful paintings stupas. Dinner overnight Hotel.

Day 03 Leh / Pangong Tso (154 kms/ 5hrs drive):
After very early breakfast drive upstream along the Right Bank of the Indus River. At Karu turn left towards Chemdey Gompa and continue along the steep roadside towards Chang La (17,350 ft.). Permits have to be verified at Zingrul travelling check point (TCP) (13,500 ft.), 12 kms short of the pass. There is a temple at the top of the Chang La and lots of prayer flags. The next TCP is at Tso lake. The first village is Durbuk followed by Thangse, both big army stations. From here to Lukung is a 32 kms drive along a rough dirty track through spectacular Barren Mountain scenery, which takes about 2 hrs. Pass through Tak - Tak & the Chakartale TSO. Between the Muglib and Lukung there are many flat green stretches of land with clean streams ideal of compositions.
Pangong Lake (which means hollow) is very long narrow spread of water situated at an altitude of 14,500 ft. Extending from east to west through the whole length of the Ruthong region of Tibet to neighborhood of Chisul, it bends to the north west for about 25 miles and forms a boundary between Ladakh and Ruthong. Only a quarter of the Lake lies in India, the rest stretching into Ruthong. Rare black necked cranes and other migratory birds are seen here. The water of the lake is salty. Late afternoon return back to Leh. Dinner overnight Hotel.
Day 04 In Leh:
Morning excursion to Khardung-la (18,380 ft.), one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Day 03 Leh/Likir/Alchi:
Drive to Likir Gompa, which lies on the right side of Leh-Srinagar road about 4 kms from the main road and is famous for numerous Thankas. Further drive to Alchi Gompa. It bears the name of Alchi from the language of pre-Tibetan of Dardic inhabitants. The Alchi Chos-khor has consisted unique paintings, which may be attributed from the mid to late 11th century and was constructed by the famous translator Rin-chen bzang po. The paintings are characterized according the Tabo and Tholing. At the entrance, gate light stupas are constructed and are known as Kakini choten. One must take a torch to see the paintings in dark rooms, as there is no light. Dinner overnight Alchi.
Day 04 Alchi/Lamayuru/Leh:
Drive to Lamayuru, which is about 75 kms via Kangaroo Curves & the drive will be covered in about 2.5 hours. Visit Lamayuru Monastery, which is unique & oldest Monastery in Ladakh. It is situated beneath the crust of Fatu-La, which is the highest point on Leh –Srinagar highway. Lamayuru is the site of very large establishment of Gelums (Monks) & Chumas (Nuns). After viewing fascinating granite color soil rocks drive back to Leh, distance of about 140 kms will be covered in about 4 hrs. Dinner overnight Hotel.
Day 05 Leh / Diskit Via Khardung La:
Early morning drive from Leh to Nubra (7 hrs drive), Nubra Valley lies in the north of Leh and is accessible over the Khardung la (18,380 ft.) one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The valley is on the trade route from Leh to Kharga via Saser and Karakoram passes. Apart from unparalleled trekking opportunities the valley houses several Buddhist monasteries such as Sumur (Khagar) and 350 years old Diskit Gompa famous for its murals. From Khardung la drive to the village of Khardung and then through starkly beautiful countryside to the TCP at Khalsar where permits have to be registered/checked. From here one has to turn to the left of Shyok River and drive for about 24 kms over a narrow steep road to Diskit where one has to stay in camps
Day 06 In Diskit:
After breakfast walk upto Diskit monastery to witness the Morning Prayer ceremony. It takes about 45 minutes to reach the monastery through a long scattered chortens. The gompa is one of the highest points near the village belonging to the yellow sect (Gelugpa). Parts of the gompa, which houses 120 resident monks, are about 700 years old. The Dukhang has many statues, one of which holds the head and left arm of Turkish invader believed to be about 5000 years old. Return to camp for lunch.
P.M. - Drive 7 kms to visit Hunder Gompa, This is a small gompa belonging to the yellow sect. It is set amidst innumerable chortens and has a huge impressive statue of Chamba in the main prayer hall. The gompa was built at the time when King Namgyal came here with his wife Gyal Khatun. Meals and overnight in the camp
Day 07 Diskit/Leh
Drive from Diskit back to Leh. Retrace the route to Leh via Khalsar and Khardung la. Meals overnight in the hotel

Leave after breakfast by Jeep to Drive via Kargroo curves, Lamayuru over Fatu-la (13,489 ft.) which is the highest pass on Leh - Srinagar road. Drive up Kangroo curves have a magnificient view of granite colour soil rocks which one imagines of Moon Land. Visit Lamayuru monastery which is the oldest & Unique Monastry in Ladakh. Also stop at Mulbek to see the Chamba statue carved out of a single rock about 144 ft. high . A distance of 230 kms will be covered in about 10 Hrs Dinner overnight stay in Hotel Saichen – Kargil.
Day 04 Kargil / Padum (Zanaskar)
Drive to Padum via Panikhar, Parkachik, Ringdum over Pansila (4406 Mts). A total distance of 235 Kms will be covered in about 10 hours. The drive along Suru River provides magnificent view of mountains and glaciers. One has to drive very carefully and slowly as the road is quite rough. There is a ridge between Panikhar and Parkachik where from one can have magnificent view of Nun (7135 Mts) & Kun (7085 Mts) Peaks. Dinner overnight stay in Tents / Guest House
Day 05 In Padum:
Leave after breakfast for excursion to Karsha Gompa.One has to cross the Zanaskar River, there is little climb upto Karsha Gompa. Karsha is the largest and most important monastery in Zanaskar, has more than 16 yellow cap monks and is under the control of younger brother of Dala-i-Lama. On the top of Gompa, there is superb panoramic view over the valley. Dinner overnight stay in Tents / Guest House.
Day 06 Padum / Kargil:

Day 03Diskit/Leh
After breakfast drive downward Shyok River. An extremely rough and rocky stretch of flat ground Cross the river over a bridge and arrive at the first village of Tirith. The road from here is extremely bad all the way upto Panamiki. The scenery however is spectacular with the snow-capped Karakoram Mountains in the background. The weather being much warmer in comparison to the Indus Valley, vegetation is thicker with a variety of trees and flowers. Visit the 150 years old Samasthanling Gompa at Bumur/Khagar. It is a big complex of 7 temples including the Ricpoches room. Walk half an hour from the gompa to Tegar village where there is another small gompa. Also Visit Tabo Monastery which is 27 kms from Danker. Tabo monastery is an ordinary mud structure, but inside it has beautiful frescoes, which earned Tabo the epithet of “AJANTA OF HIMALAYAS”. Day 12 Shimla/Chandigarh
